Jazz Báltica - Bunky Green with Stefano di Battista and Greg Osby-Born: April 23, 1935 Performer, educator, composer, arranger, lecturer, and music education consultant, Professor Green has 14 albums released in his name on vintage labels such as Chess, Exodus, Cadet, and Vanguard. As an international performer, educator, and lecturer, his European tours have taken him to Poland, Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, and Africa. Professor Green received film credit for his background solo work in Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, featuring Danny Glover and Esther Rolle. He is Past President and permanent chair of the Past Presidents Council of the world's largest jazz education organization, the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE). Professor Green received a rare five star rating from Downbeat Magazine for his album Healing the Pain. Along with Gary Burton, Gerald Wilson, Jackie McLean, and Rufus Reid, he was cited in a 1995 DownBeat Magazine article recognizing the nation's leading jazz educators who are also respected players. In a 1997 DownBeat article, saxophone great Joe Lovano said, Bunky personifies what jazz is all about. He's combined all the inspiration of Parker and Dolphy and fused it into an individual voice. Catherine Annette Hanshaw, born 1901, was one of the first great jazz singers although she never thought much of her own singing. In 1935, she was chosen America's most popular female singer in a national poll of radio listeners promoted by Radioland Magazine. Annette never appeared in movies although she had numerous offers, and her only appearance on film is the 1:43 clip of her singing We Just Couldn't Say Goodbye from Captain Henry's Maxwell House Showboat in 1933. She appeared on numerous radio shows for Maxwell House, Van Heusen shirts, Camel cigarettes, etc but left in 1936 at the height of her career to live with her husband, Pathe exec Wally Rose. Body and Soul was first made famous by torch singer Libby Holman who sang it in the Broadway show, Three's a Crowd in 1930

Featuring members of the the Harvard Placebo Study Group, "Placebo: Cracking the Code" examines the power of belief in alleviating pain, curing disease, and the healing of injuries. The placebo effect is a pervasive, albeit misunderstood, phenomenon in medicine. In the UK, over 60% of doctors surveyed said they had prescribed placebos in regular clinical practice. In a recent Times Magazine article, 96% of US physicians surveyed stated that they believe that placebo treatments have real therapeutic effects. Work on the placebo effect received an intellectual boost when the Harvard Placebo Study Group was founded at the beginning of 2001. This group is part of the Mind-Brain-Behavior Initiative at Harvard University, and its main characteristic is the interdisciplinary approach to the placebo phenomenon. The group is made up of 8 members: Anne Harrington (Historian of Science at Harvard), Howard Fields (Neuroscientist at Univ. of California in San Francisco), Dan Moerman (Anthropologist at Univ. of Michigan), Nick Humphrey (Evolutionary Psychologist at London School of Economics), Dan Wegner (Psychologist at Harvard), Jamie Pennebaker (Psychologist at Univ. of Texas in Austin), Ginger Hoffman (Behavioral Geneticist at Harvard) and Fabrizio Benedetti (Neuroscientist at Univ. of Turin).
