The News Magazine of the Screen (1950) pt 1

For Christmas, No Rights Reserved Theater is presenting this newsreel from 1950. The last five minutes is a montage of Christmas celebrations from around the world. But, first, we must hear about an assassination attempt on the life of President Truman (I hope he's okay), failed attempt at a revolution in Puerto Rico (you know it's gonna be all right), We also learn of the death of Sweden's King Gustav V as well as Al Jolson (but, probably not at the same time, nor at the hands of Puerto Rican assassins, but you never know). Then Britain's House of Commons reopens after being blitzed by the Nazis (not the Puerto Ricans). Now meet an 18 year old trap shooter. That's right. She's 18. And has a gun. Sounds hot, no? Hubba hubba! Then meet a seven year old girl that is already an expert horse rider and is probably making more money than you. Then... guess what? Atom bombs explode! Lots of big booms with mushrooms! Ah, but then we settle down for the Christmas part. Amid the drifting atomic dust and debris of the bombs, we see Christmas services from the United States, England, Holland, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Korea, Japan, Canada and Mexico. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Yeah, if you're easily offended by people in blackface or bodies of dead assassins, you might want to skip this. I know this isn't the most exciting film of all time, but hey... I cut out the part where Trygve Lie wins the vote to continue as United Nations Secretary General. You're welcome.
